Rue Diagou Moudaliar

Prior to visiting Puducherry, formerly known as Pondicherry, I was expecting to experience a city with a lot of French influences. In many respects the city exhibits a stronger Tamil influence. This detail from a wall shows a lot about the mixture of old, new, Indian and European that can be found in the city. Note the French style street sign, the boldly coloured adverts for IT courses (reflecting modern India's desire for knowledge and progress) and also the old poster fragment showing Sonia Gandhi.
